Showing Breed & Obedience
Does anyone out there show Breed and Obedience? If so...how do you get your dog to understand the difference? You can't have your breed dog looking up at you on the down and back yet when doing obedience, you want your dog to look at you. I finished a dog and then went on to obedience and the breed ring was hard for him to leave behind. I want to now start my 16 month old in obedience but she's just getting the hang of breed showing. I started her as a pup in obedience and she was doing great, better than I expected, however then at 6 months putting her in the breed ring I had many difficulties...sitting, sitting, sitting, and looking up at me on the down and back. Wonder if anyone has any ideas I haven't tried. I've already tried not looking at her, using a different collar, teaching her the word "stand".

Well, our theory here is that if you can't beat 'em, fuck 'em. Maybe a good old nailing to the ass would do the pup some good.

Kia, Rune, behave. *snaps fingers*
Ah, I do believe you're in the wrong forum, but I do have some helpful advice for you.
First of all, dogs don't understand words; what they do understand are the energies and imagery you invariably create when you say the word. Dogs are extremely sensitive to energy, so if you are at all nervous, stressed, or worried at a dog show (especially as you have experienced failure in the past), it will have a severely detrimental effect on the dog's behavior. It is more than likely that you are nervous when you enter the ring, even if you haven't realized it, and nervousness is not appropriate for a pack leader; the dog will see you as a follower, not its master. The most important thing to do is to behave in a calm and assertive manner (maybe practice some meditation before the show), and when giving commands to always visualize what you want them to do (you've heard them say that dogs are psychic, and the truth is not far off). Words alone are not enough; you must express the right energy.
Good luck.

Oh goodness.
It's difficult to determine whether you are a troll, or simply a very confused individual.
In any case, NotaBene has provided you with an excellent response. You may also want try your luck at finding an appropriate forum in a Google search.

Re: Showing Breed & Obedience
Yes, I'm afraid we share the same name with a dog obedience website... I've googled this forum once, and this comes right close to the dog obedience one XD
I agree with Nota - also, always watch your voice. For my puppy, when we want to encourage a good behaviour, we use a calmer, higher voice, where as when she does something wrong, we drop the voice and make it sound more commanding. You really have to exaggerate the difference, otherwise puppy will be confused. Hope you find the right forum Deb =)

Meanie!! You completely forgot about Tigg!! Tigg counts just as much as Kia and Louise do, just that he isn't as promiscuous. Tigg is cute and unforgettable... HOW DARE YOU!!Freaky_Feline wrote:I'm afraid you're in the wrong forum this is a game with THAT title and has nothing to do with dogs

The reason for that is because of the energy you use in the way that you say it. If you focus on saying something in an assertive way, that has the result of making you 'feel' assertive. Experts claim that deaf dogs are actually easier to train because they are more sensitive to the energies, so the words aren't really necessary except as a way to make yourself feel a particular way...if that makes sense.

Well I thought Kia might want the advice for Tigg. Kia's such a naughty boy, and we don't want that reflected in Tigg now do we?

I.
Feel.
Sorry.
For.

Dog.
Then I would have to agree with you Nota. Since Kia cannot be saved from being naughty, save the dog.

I think Kia could benefit more from a collar and leash than Tigg would, to be honest.

I may be bad, but I am a good daddy to Tigg. >[ Not to mention that he is more around Gallacher than me at this point.
All we have to worry about is him being flamboyant. Hahah.

Awh, Kia.:-p I'm not suggesting that you're a bad dog owner, I was saying that Tigg is more well behaved in general than you are.

Re: Showing Breed & Obedience
Secondly, I think Kia could benefit from Louise's new book. I didn't even know that there was anything like this, but I found it last night on amazon.com. I hope they still have plenty of copies left.:-D Only reason I've been delaying is the expensive international shipping; it's not available at Amazon.co.uk.:-/
